Anemones

Last year, when we told K he coul dhave his own garden plot this year, he decided he wanted flowers that looked like sea anemones. We got dahlias with curly petals. After a lot of patience, the flowers have now bloomed, and the resemblance is striking!

Actual anemone, from the aquarium last week:

K is very proud!

Hi Kobi,

I, too, have some dahlias in my garden. They are red and white so yours definitely look more like anemones! I really didn't know what I was planting and they grew almost 5 feet tall. They wrap around my finch feeder and the birds love them as much as the bird feeder.

I was also surprised that after the first winter and for the last few years, they have come back again. After I planted them I read somewhere that you should dig up the bulb and store in a cool/cold place over the winter and then plant in the spring. However, I did not read that until the dahlias were all ready covered with snow! So, imagine my surprise when I saw them coming up in the late spring. Perhaps it is because they are planted close to the house. Each spring I look for them again and so far I have not been disappointed.

This year we tried our first tomato plant in a pot. I was hesitant because we have very little sun in our back yard. I put it in a pot and it is now almost 5 feet tall!!!! We have had a few tomatoes to eat but I am afraid we will not have enough sun for a full crop.

It is so much fun that here in Michigan we can see all the fun things you are doing.

Dear Kobi,
That's the most beautiful dahlia we've ever seen! You must have a green thumb, or a yellow and orange one, like the dahlia. Nice work, Farmer Kobi!

Hi, Kobi!

That's a beautiful dahlia, and it really does look like an anemone. You chose it well, and you clearly gave it the love it needed to bloom and grow! You deserve to be proud.

Love,
Uncle Matt
